Less than 300 km to the finish, and less than $3,000 to reach our goal. Meeting the goal would mean that every dollar we raised would be matched 100%.
Uncertainty makes life its best. It’s also full of surprises, and sometimes with uncertainty come the best surprises.
After my last post, it got hilly, windy and freezing cold, and a storm was rolling in with rain predicted all night. Bought myself a hot pie and was eating it outside a Pak’nSave with an 80-year-old.
Just as I was taking off to Gore, I heard someone holler, “Mate, you are missing a passenger!” I smiled and asked him if he would help me pedal to Gore, and his answer was a prompt “No.”
Simon asked me where I was planning to stay for the night, and if I had anything planned. When I said no, he offered me a place to sleep for the night. I still had about 140 km to go, but the weather changed my mind and I took up his offer.
I met his beautiful family, three adorable kids, two puppy dogs, a Dutch cyclist he was hosting, awesome food, a spa, whiskey…
It’s pissing down rain with crazy gusts outside, but I’m warm and comfortable, wondering what I did to deserve this kindness. It’s uncertainties like these that make the journey beautiful and special. Feels good to be present and alive!
