Day 52: Into Çerkeş, in the snow

ChennaiHamburg

Today’s conditions were so rough. Snow was in the forecast, but I didn’t realise it was going to be this bad. Thanks to the steep hills, which kept me a bit warm.

With visibility reduced to 20 m, riding on the shoulder of the wet road while getting sprayed by the oncoming trucks was no fun. Freezing cold headwinds all day. Rain, sleet, snow with a temperature of -6°C (22°F). That’s when the ride got bumpy. I looked at the rear wheel, and it was totally deflated. Standing on the side of the road with my head on the seat, I was in tears.

My fingers weren’t even working to change the gears, let alone change a flat in blizzard conditions. The road just broke me today.

Had no energy or finger strength to change the flat, so instead I just pumped up the wheel a couple of times and got to Çerkeş.

It was supposed to be spring here, but it looks like a winter wonderland. The challenge is getting real.

Frozen gear, and something hot in Çerkeş.
