The view from the top of the Clent Hills Saddle (1480m), with a clear view of the spectacular Longman Range, en route to Manuka Hut along the Clent Hills track of Te Araroa. Tussocks and spear grass devastated my feet, but stunning views like these totally made it worth the pain. Day 64, for a total of 2292km.
“The hardest thing in the world is to simplify your life. It’s so easy to make it complex. What’s important is leading an examined life.” — 180° South. This has been my favorite pastime tramping Te Araroa. After a long day of hard tramping, once we get to a hut, I build a fire, read my favorite book while sipping hot tea, and fire-gaze. Loving the simpler life.
