Day 22, kick-starting with this amazing kind soul and my bestest friend in Rolleston, Christchurch. Let’s do this, Sarah!

Sarah.

A huge setback this time. Not because of Kindness, but my iPhone. Soon after Sarah got on the bus, my iPhone died on me. Just like that. On top of that, I couldn’t access any of my social media or Gmail, because I had enabled two-factor authentication on all my accounts, meaning I could only get into them through my iPhone, which was dead, or my Mac, which was sitting in Auckland.

I was going to speak at a school, but I couldn’t even call them back to let them know, and then I had to miss a newspaper interview. I felt totally paralysed.

A kind stranger let me borrow her phone and her computer. I swapped the SIM card and used her computer to turn off two-factor authentication. It took ages to recover all my passwords just so I could get to my social media, contacts and Gmail.

I have been turning more and more Stoic ever since I hit the road for Freedom Seat. No showing of pain or complaint, but accepting the hardship as it is, and having the supreme confidence that everything happens for good.

Rakaia.

Thank you, Sarah, for making my journey through Christchurch a very memorable one, and for rescuing me from the side of the road. Not sure what I would’ve done without your help. You are the best!
